When Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotlighted Shri Deepak Nabam in the 118th episode of his Mann Ki Baat radio address, he hailed him as a “remarkable individual whose selfless efforts have brought hope, healing, and dignity to countless lives.” That national recognition underscored what people in Arunachal Pradesh have known for years: that Deepak Nabam is a rare beacon of compassion who has transformed personal adversity into a lifetime of service.

Born into poverty in the remote village of Pape Sango under Leporiang Circle in Papum Pare district Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Deepak Nabam faced hardship from an early age thereby unable to afford schooling and he was fostered by a teacher, doubling up as a domestic helper while pursuing his education. Despite his perseverance, he had to discontinue his studies after class 12 passed due to financial constraints and he fell into substance abuse, leading to alcoholism and severe liver cirrhosis. Ostracized and abandoned, he was once declared beyond medical help. But from that brink of death, he chose a different path—one of redemption and purpose.

On 11th September 2005, while still struggling to survive, Shri Deepak Nabam founded the Deepak Nabam Living Home (A home for no home) in his modest bamboo-thatched room. With no institutional support and barely any resources, he began picking up abandoned senior citizens, drug addicts, mentally ill individuals, and terminally sick patients—those cast away by society. At a time when neither government mechanisms nor tribal communities in Arunachal Pradesh had systems in place to care for such individuals, Shri Deepak Nabam filled that vacuum with courage and care.

He rehabilitated thousands of destitute people, offering not just food and shelter but emotional healing and human dignity. Many who arrived on the verge of death have returned to health, reintegrated into society, and some even reunited with families. The Deepak Nabam Living Home stands today as a sanctuary of last resort, running purely on goodwill, donations, and unwavering dedication.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Deepak Nabam Living Home, run by Shri Deepak Nabam, became a de-facto rehabilitation centre for the mentally challenged, drug addicts, and socially abandoned individuals. Operating across Arunachal Pradesh and extending support to neighboring state like Assam, and different part of India, he provided free shelter, food, medical aid, in a bumper services to the helpless needy destitute overwhelmly.

Despite limited resources, the organization rescued and rehabilitated thousands, offering dignity and hope amid crisis. His exceptional and distinguish services of saving many helpless destitute, beggars, deprived and marginalized people who were about to demise and at the verge of death has been known to all.

Humanist Deepak Nabam’s hard work, exceptional and distinguish services towards saving suffering humanity has paid off. The Government of India awarded Vayoshreshtha Samman National Award in 2021 with cash amount of Rs. 5 Lakhs for services to senior citizens, conferred by then Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi. The Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh conferred State Gold Medal on 15th August 2023, recognizing his distinguish services to vulnerable sections of society.

On 4th Janjatiya Gaurav Divas -2024, Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh awarded him a Memento in recognition as prominent tribal social worker of Arunachal Pradesh.

On 8th March 2025, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the institution runs by Deepak Nabam has been conferred, Arunachal Pradesh Women Achievers Award-2025, along with a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh, in recognition of its outstanding contributions towards the upliftment and welfare of women and children.

The Several departments of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh including Health, Social Justice & Empowerment, Police, Women & Child, Municipal Corporation, Deputy Commissioner and huge bunches of awards and appreciations from various sources are the testament of his exceptional contributions and services of social work.

What sets Deepak Nabam apart is not just the scale of his work, but the spirit behind it. He neither sought nor relied on government grants. He built everything from scratch— motivated solely by empathy. His life is a testament to the idea that one man, with no money or backing, can heal a fractured society.

 
 

HIS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS:

Humanist Deepak Nabam is a distinguished and prominent tribal social worker whose unwavering commitment over the past two decades has transformed countless lives, especially in the tribal and remote regions of Arunachal Pradesh. His work focuses on the care, rescue, and rehabilitation of the mentally disabled, physically challenged, terminally ill, elderly, and socially abandoned individuals.

1. Empowering Individuals and communities:-

His vision of a compassionate and inclusive society has not only transformed the lives of the abandoned but also ignited a wave of changes. He rehabilitated 8500 plus individuals and awareness and educated 2.20 lakhs people. Apart from above the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the nation and spotlighted Shri Deepak Nabam’s contribution towards the nation in his Mann Ki Baat radio address, hailed him a remarkable individual whose selfless efforts have brought hope, healing, and dignity to countless lives in India.

His most exceptional and transformative contribution are the establishment of two locations of holistic rehabilitation Institution under the name and style of Deepak Nabam Living Home (A home for no home) at Senki Park, Itanagar and another is at Sopo, Doimukh in Papum Pare District, Arunachal Pradesh. It is the first of its kind in Arunachal Pradesh which providing completely free shelter, medical care, were mentally challenged, physically challenged, elderly, helpless needy destitute, discarded individual and beggars are rehabilitating.

2. Addressing Social Issues and Serving Needy:-

He tackles a wide range of issues like poverty, mental health challenges, substance abuse and homeless people. He runs state lone Half Way Home for mental disability in Arunachal Pradesh in two different location which play a vital role in improving, connecting services and to navigate these challenges.

3. Promoting Social Justice and Equality:-

He strongly advocated for social justice, working to eliminate discrimination, poverty and oppression. His efforts have not only humanized the plight of mentally disabled, homeless beggars, but also influenced institutional engagement paving the way for a more inclusive and compassionate society.

4. Supporting Helping Hands:-

He dedicatedly builds stronger relationship for the well being of individuals, family and society by promoting social work and contributing selflessly enhancing human well being and in a more cohesive and supportive towards society.

5. Working profoundly in diverse encompass with a wide range of mental health, deprived and marginalized, community organizing, policy development and address a broad spectrum of needs and contribute to positive changes of healthy society.

Deepak Nabam profoundly encompasses a wide range of program and initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of individuals and communities, particularly those facing challenges. These activities often involve providing basic needs like food, shelter, heath care etc as well as promoting social inclusion and development by means of direct assistance, social services, social welfare administration, cross-cutting activities, specific groups and other social program. He works with diverse populations addressing issue like poverty, addiction, mental health challenges and advocating for vulnerable individual and communities.

Shri Deepak Nabam’s two-decade-long dedication to social service has created profound and lasting impacts on the lives of thousands of underprivileged individuals across Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of India. His compassionate efforts have not only changed individual lives but have also influenced the broader social, governmental, and institutional approach toward marginalized communities.

The most significant outcome of his work is the holistic rehabilitation and care of over 8,500 individuals including the mentally disabled, physically challenged, terminally ill, elderly, and socially abandoned.

He has become an inspiring role model for many, motivating them to serve suffering humanity, while also educating and raising awareness among over 2.20 lakh people. His exceptional service and selfless contributions to suffering humanity were honoured and lauded by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the 118th episode of Mann Ki Baat.

He works with diverse populations, addressing issues such as poverty, addiction, and mental health, while actively advocating for vulnerable individuals and marginalized communities. He inspires a new generation of changemakers by empowering students with the knowledge and empathy needed to serve suffering humanity.

His running institution has become a model institution, frequently visited by government officials, NGOs, and social service students, who look to replicate his approach in their own areas.

Several departments of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh including Health, Social Justice & Empowerment, Police, Women & Child, Municipal Corporation, and the Deputy Commissioner have honoured him with certificates of appreciation for his exceptional and commendable contributions to social welfare.

Shri Deepak Nabam’s contributions have gone beyond charity they have sparked systemic change, built community awareness, and created sustainable impact.
